Dr. Matzkin Helps Change a Life

Dr. Matzkin donates his services and changes the life of a patient with Lou Gehrigs disease. It is the first known lasik procedure to be peformed on a patient with paralysis.

From the moment Dr. Matzkin met Miss Flores he knew that he needed to try and make her life easier. Even with the disease she is striken with, her smile lit up the room. In the nursing home where she resides, she uses a computer which is controlled by her eyes - her eyes
control the mouse. When her glasses would fall off, she would have to wait until someone would come back to place them back on before she could resume what she was doing. Sometimes that could be hours since she is unable to press a button for care.

Ms. Flores is doing extremely well after having had Advanced Surface Ablation performed on her eyes by Dr. Matzkin on March 20, 2007. Another interesting bit of the story -- Dr. Matzkin and Ms. Flores found out that they share the same birthday!
